De IJssel – Deventer – terwolde

3 september ’22 – Deventer ontwaakt

Enthousiast door mijn eerste kennismaking met de IJssel bij Welsum, vandaag opnieuw op verkenning. Dit maal start ik bij aanvang van het blauwe uurtje op de linkeroever van de IJssel tegenover Deventer. Deze plek, voor het IJsselhotel gelegen aan de rand van het Plantsoen de Worp, is een populaire fotolocatie. Je hebt er namelijk een mooi zicht op de skyline van Deventer met de Lubuinuskerk als baken. Het is niet de eerste maal dat ik hier weer in het donker sta. De laatste maal was op 12 februari ’20. Toen kon je onmogelijk op precies dezelfde plek staan als waar ik deze ochtend sta. In tegenstelling tot vandaag, waarbij de waterstand extreem laag is, was op 12 februari de waterstand namelijk extreem hoog. Een enorm groot contrast, maar beide situaties fotogeniek.

Terwolde, parkeren onderaan de Bandijk

Even voordat de zon opkomt vertrek ik naar de volgende locatie en blijf daarbij opnieuw aan de linkeroever. Deze locatie ligt slechts enkele kilometers verder in Noord Westelijke richting bij het dorp Terwolde. Net na het restaurant Het Nieuwe Diekhuus zijn er op verschillende plekken onderaan de Bandijk kleine parkeermogelijkheden – zie afbeelding. Vandaar af kun je in verschillende richtingen door de uiterwaarden van de IJsel lopen en genieten.

Zichtlijn

Precies op tijd om de zon op te zien komen, sta ik aan de waterkant. De zon komt, ten opzichte van mijn standpunt, op aan de overzijde van de rivier. Wat betreft de compositiemogelijkheid heb ik eveneens geluk deze ochtend. Een fraaie lindeboom op de oever waar ik sta en eentje die aan de overkant van het water staat dienen als zichtpunten in de opname.

Meer in beeld brengen

Op zich ben ik tevreden met de zonsopkomst foto, maar zou eigenlijk wat meer van de omgeving in de foto willen zien. Daarom pas ik de techniek van het maken van panorama opnames toe. De serie foto’s die ik maak voor de uiteindelijke panorama foto, maak ik met dezelfde 16-55mm lens. Mijn camera staat waterpas op mijn driepoot statief in de portret stand. Zo krijg ik uiteindelijk de foto waar net iets meer op staat als een enkele foto. Een mini minpuntje op deze locatie is de bebouwing aan de overkant van de IJssel.

Mijn persoonlijke tips voor het maken van een panorama foto

• Fotografeer bij voorkeur vanaf een driepoot statief
• Zorg dat je camera op zowel horizontaal als op verticaal niveau waterpas staat
• Zet de camera in portretstand
• Wanneer je een groothoeklens gebruik, zoom dan iets in om
• Bepaal wat je in beeld wilt brengen, zowel links als rechts en boven en onder
• Stel je camera in op handmatige bediening en stel de juiste belichting in
• Gebruik een remote control of zet de timer van je camera op 2 seconden
• Neem een serie foto’s van links naar rechts van de vooraf gekozen compositie
• Zorg bij het maken van iedere foto voor eenderde overlap met de vorige foto

September 3 ’22 – Deventer awakens

Enthusiastic about my first acquaintance with the IJssel near Welsum, today exploring again. This time I start at the start of the blue hour on the left bank of the IJssel opposite Deventer. This spot, located in front of the IJsselhotel on the edge of the Plantsoen de Worp, is a popular photo location. You have a beautiful view of the skyline of Deventer with the Lubuiuskerk as a beacon. It’s not the first time I’ve been here in the dark again. The last time was on February 12, ’20. Then you couldn’t possibly be standing in the exact same spot I’m standing this morning. In contrast to today, where the water level is extremely low, on February 12 the water level was extremely high. An enormous contrast, but both situations photogenic.

Terwolde, parking at the bottom of the Bandijk

Just before the sun rises I leave for the next location, again staying on the left bank. This location is only a few kilometers further in a north-westerly direction near the village of Terwolde. Just after the restaurant Het Nieuwe Diekhuus there are small parking options at various places at the bottom of the Bandijk – see image. From there you can walk in different directions through the floodplains of the IJsel and enjoy.

Line of sight

Just in time to see the sun rise, I’m standing on the water’s edge. The sun rises, from my point of view, on the other side of the river. As for the composition option, I’m also lucky this morning. A beautiful lime tree on the bank where I am standing and one on the other side of the water serve as viewpoints in the shot.

Visualize more

In itself I am satisfied with the sunrise photo, but would actually like to see more of the surroundings in the photo. That is why I apply the technique of making panorama shots. The series of photos that I take for the final panorama photo, I take with the same 16-55mm lens. My camera is level on my tripod in portrait mode. This way I eventually get the photo that has just a little more on it than a single photo. A mini minus at this location is the buildings on the other side of the IJssel.

My personal tips for making a panorama photo

• Preferably photograph from a tripod
• Make sure your camera is level both horizontally and vertically
• Set the camera to portrait mode
• When using a wide angle lens, zoom in slightly to
• Decide what you want to portray, both left and right and above and below
• Set your camera to manual control and set the correct exposure
• Use a remote control or set your camera’s timer to 2 seconds
• Take a series of photos from left to right of the pre-selected composition
• When taking each photo, make sure to overlap one-third with the previous photo
